Brush fire extinguished

A brush fire at Royal Roads University was extinguished Thursday by Colwood fire department, but it could have been much worse, said Fire Chief Russ Cameron.
"We were fortunate because we got to it quickly," he said, adding that the fact there was no wind was a "saving grace."
The fire was 600 metres from College Drive, he said, and flames were moving inland toward a heavily wooded area. Nineteen personnel fought the flames for 90 minutes.
Cameron noted that there is a fire ban in Colwood. "[People] shouldn't be having fires in the middle of bush in the middle of summer."
