Man charged after alleged food assault

Saanich police arrested an irate drunk who allegedly threw a hot dog and candy at a convenience store employee.
The incident happened early Friday morning at a store on Burnside Road West.
Police said that after the employee confronted the man for allegedly pocketing items from the shelves, he grabbed a hot dog from a customer, took a bite and then threw the hot dog and a bag of candy at the employee.
A 27-year-old man is facing theft and assault charges.
