Court reserves decision in appeal of award in police shooting case
Sep 08 2012
It will likely be several weeks or months before the B.C. Court of Appeal rules on a case in which the District of Saanich was ordered to pay more than $350,000 to the family of a mentally ill man shot and killed by police.
The court reserved its decision this week.
Saanich filed the appeal after B.C. Supreme Court judge Grant Burnyeat found that police used excessive force and were grossly negligent in the shooting death of Majencio Camaso.
The 33-year-old man was shot and killed in a school playground on July 11, 2004.
