Police seek assault victim

Victoria police arrested a suspect, but are still looking for the victim of a daylight robbery attempt on Douglas Street Friday morning. Witnesses reported seeing a man shove a woman head-first into a wall and try to steal her purse in the 1300 block of Douglas about 10: 30 a.m.

A passerby stopped the attack, and other witnesses held the suspect until police arrived. But the female victim left the area.

Police discovered that the 33-year-old suspect was wanted on two outstanding warrants for assault and uttering threats. He was held in custody until a bail hearing.

The female victim is described as being of Asian descent in her late teens or early 20s. She is five feet tall with long black hair and was wearing a black cardigan sweater, black pants and carrying a large beige purse.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact Const. Rob Horne at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Officers would also like to speak to the passerby who came to the woman's rescue. .
