Early morning fire at Dallas Road beach
Sep 08 2012
Victoria firefighters were met by flames and smoke coming up a bank on Dallas Road when they responded to an early-morning call Saturday in Beacon Hill Park.
Crews were called at 5:45 a.m. for what turned out to be the aftermath of a beach fire at Finlayson Point, located below the Beacon Hill pavilion. Nine firefighters were dispatched to the scene, along with three vehicles.
The incident came just over a month since Victoria fire officials issued a reminder that beach fires are illegal within city limits, and are especially dangerous during stretches of warm, dry weather. They said at the time that Finlayson Point had already been the scene of a beach fire that spread up the bluffs in the area.
The fine for having a beach fire goes from $350 to $2,000.
