Striking ICBC workers likely to cause delays today
Sep 18 2012
Expect delays at Insurance Corporation of B.C. claim centres today, as unionized workers walk off the job at all Vancouver Island locations.
More than 1,600 unionized ICBC workers will be holding strike action outside B.C.'s 55 ICBC claim centre buildings, as part of a contract dispute with the government Crown corporation.
Though essential service staff levels remain, the union is warning the public to reschedule claims today or face significant delays.
All of ICBC's Island claim sites - including Campbell River, Courtenay, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Duncan and Victoria's Dunedin Street location - will be affected by the strike.
The offices will have staff inside, but only at essential-service levels.
More than 1,500 workers will be involved in the strike, including 174 from the Island.
