Leaking drum's contents unknown

Sep 29 2012

The substance that sparked the evacuation of a Langford neighbourhood Thursday afternoon remains a mystery.

West Shore RCMP were called to Desmond Drive and Latoria Road, where they found a substance leaking from an uninsured, abandoned dump truck carrying seven 45-gallon drums.

Langford Fire Chief Bob Beckett said a drum was patched by a hazardous material team. A private contractor was called to help clean up and remove the drums.

The substance was sent out for testing on Friday. The Langford Fire Department said the it appeared to be some kind of lubricant.
