Attack leaves man needing staples in head
Oct 04 2012
A notorious Saanich home was the scene of a violent assault last Friday.
Witnesses said two men dressed in black and with bandanas covering their faces burst into the home on Harriet Road around 8: 40 a.m.
The men allegedly pushed aside the homeowner and went into a bedroom, where they attacked a 41-year-old man.
When police arrived at the home in the 3400 block of Harriet Road, the man had a deep gash to his head, possibly made by a pipe.
The victim told police he tried to defend himself with a baseball bat, but his attackers grabbed it from him. The attackers fled on bicycles.
Another possible victim left the scene before police arrived and has not been co-operative with investigators, said Saanich police Sgt.
Dean Jantzen, noting officers have been called to the home 271 times since 2007 for a variety of disturbances.
The injured man was taken to hospital, where five staples were needed to close his head wound.
He had two outstanding warrants for parole violations, and remained in police custody while awaiting an appearance before a judge.
Saanich police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call them at 250-475-4321, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
