A 65-year-old Chemainus woman died Thursday morning when a truck collided with her scooter.
The woman was driving her motorized scooter across a crosswalk about 9: 15 a.m. when the truck pulled out of a parking lot and struck her.
The driver stopped and gave first aid to the woman, who was unconscious and had severe injuries. The woman's husband also assisted. She was taken by ambulance to the Chemainus Health Care Centre, where she was pronounced dead.
"The truck driver stated he was blinded by the sun, and did not see the scooter on the roadway," said Cpl. Jon Stuart, spokesman for North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP. The investigation is ongoing.
