Nanaimo RCMP seeking jogger who was assaulted

Oct 11 2012

Nanaimo RCMP want to speak to a female jogger who reported being sexually assaulted Tuesday morning.

A woman jogging near Wellington Road went to a nearby car dealership after a man slapped her on the behind. She reported the incident to an employee at the Jim Pattison Hyundai dealership.

The employee tried to follow a suspect, but soon lost sight of the man.

An RCMP dog team searched for the suspect, described as white, in his mid-20s, about six-foot-one and 170 pounds, with a shaved head and wearing a blue-green hoodie with red and black track pants.

"We did track him to a house, but we didn't have enough [evidence] to make an arrest at that point," said Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP media spokesman. "We also need to speak with the jogger. She left the area without providing her name and did not contact the detachment later in the day to follow up."

The jogger is white, 30 to 40 years old with straight blond hair. She was wearing black yoga pants and a black top.

Nanaimo RCMP are asking the woman and any witnesses to call 250-754-2345. Ask for Const. Nicolas Flemming.
