Rick Green has died after being taken off life support late Sunday afternoon. Green, 57, had suffered a significant brain damage after being struck outside a Colwood pub last week and had been in an induced coma for days.

A week ago, he tried to break up an argument between a man and woman outside Country Rose pub when he was stuck and knocked unconscious.

He had undergone surgery for blood pooling in his brain and was placed in a medically induced coma.

Green had been a fixture at the Colwood pub for more than 20 years. The bar was packed Sunday evening with about 50 people who came to watch the televised game of Green’s favourite football team, the Green Bay Packers.

“They stopped with the life support, and now we just wait,” Denis Desjardin, Green’s good friend and chef at the pub, said earlier Sunday night.

Desjardin was there when Green tried to break up the argument outside in the parking lot.

Gregory Brotherston, 31, was charged with aggravated assault and is expected to have a bail hearing today at Western Communities Court House. He is the youngest son of former Highlands councillors Kenneth Brotherston Sr. and Marie Brotherston.
