UVic honours outstanding alumni

The University of Victoria marked its 50th anniversary with a tribute to five outstanding alumni whose deeds typify the school's values and goals.
The sold-out event, A Celebration of 50 Years of Excellence, also celebrated UVic's 30-year partnership with East China Normal University.
The five alumni are:
? Paralympic swimmer and medal winner Stephanie Dixon, described as a shining example of inspiration and perseverance.
? Grand Chief Edward John, the hereditary chief of the Tl'azt'en Nation and a leading advocate of indigenous governance, community development and business.
? Paul Nicklen, an eminent nature photographer who uses his craft in the study of science, especially documenting climate change.
? Writer Alisa Smith, whose commitment to sustainability is shown in her book The 100-Mile Diet: A Year of Local Eating.
? Tamara Vrooman, president and CEO of Vancity, whose leadership includes a commitment to social responsibility. -
