Thousands without power after crash, equipment failure

Oct 21 2012

A vehicle that crashed into an electrical pole on the Patricia Bay Highway knocked out power to more than 1,200 B.C. Hydro customers on Saturday morning.

A northbound vehicle hit and broke the pole near Say-ward Avenue around 5 a.m.

Saanich police said there were no injuries and no criminal charges were pending.

B.C. Hydro had power restored by just before 9 a.m.

Another 7,000 Oak Bay and Victoria customers lost power Saturday in gusty winds. B.C. Hydro attributed the power loss to equipment failure.

Most people had their power restored by about 4 p.m.
