Gregory Brotherston has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a Colwood man.
The 31-year-old youngest son of former Highlands councillors Ken and Marie Brotherston was arrested Oct. 9.
He was charged with the aggravated assault of Richard Green outside the Country Rose pub in Colwood on Oct. 8.
Green, 57, died Oct. 14 at Victoria General Hospital, where he had been in a medically induced coma.
Brotherston remains in custody at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre and is expected to appear in court in three weeks.
Crown prosecutors reviewed the evidence and raised the charge to manslaughter on Thursday.
Green was a well-loved fixture for more than 20 years at the Country Rose pub. He was born and raised in Toronto, served 25 years in the air force and moved to Victoria in 1991.
Green worked for B.C. Vital Statistics for the past 12 years.
He is survived by his 22-yearold son Kevin, mother Ruth and sisters Tracey and Shelley.
