Financial planning for the disabled

Nov 14 2012

A free public information session aims to make financial planning a little more clear for people with a disability. Certified financial planner Stephanie Dean is holding a presentation for people with disabilities, their families and those who care for people with disabilities to address some of the key opportunities and pitfalls in planning for financial security. The event is the result of a challenge issued by the Financial Planning Standards Council to financial planners to come up with ideas for community events to inspire Canadians to take action toward their financial well-being during Financial Planning Week (Nov. 19-25). The FPSC chose 12 submissions from across the country and awarded a $500 honorarium to be used toward the event or as a charitable donation. Dean's presentation will cover topics including the Provincial Assistance Program, disability tax credit, Registered Disability Savings Plans, Endowment 150, trusts and estate planning. The talk is Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. at Elizabeth Buckley School, 1309 Hillside Ave. RSVP to rdsp@telus.net
