Nanaimo man, 70, dead after being hit by a car at crosswalk

A 70-year-old Nanaimo man is dead after being hit by a car while crossing the street at a crosswalk Friday evening.
Around 5:30 p.m. Nanaimo RCMP received a 9-1-1 call about pedestrian being hit at a crosswalk near Nanaimo General Hospital, said Staff Sgt. John Blaase.
“It was at a crossing with ambient lights. It was dark, rainy and grey out,” he said.
The elderly man was attended to by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital, where he died.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the man is cooperating with police.
The incident is still under investigation by the RCMP. No further information about the man who was killed is available at this time.
