Pool chemicals prompt evacuation from Parkside resort downtown
Dec 04 2012
Toxic fumes from pool chemicals prompted the evacuation of the east tower of Parkside Victoria Resort and Spa at Humboldt and Blanshard streets Monday morning. Several staff were sent to hospital as a precaution and surrounding blocks were shut down to traffic just after 7: 30 a.m. Investigators say two maintenance staff experienced sore throats and irritated eyes when they opened the doors to the pool area. When fire crews arrived, they detected high levels of noxious chemicals. Officials from the Capital Regional District's Hazmat Response Service say the readings were likely caused by an excessive amount of chemicals building up in the air overnight.
