Campbell River man dies after being hit by van

RCMP and WorkSafe B.C. are investigating the death of a 24-year-old Campbell River man who was killed after being hit by a van backing out of a parking lot Monday evening.
The 24-year-old was walking near the Mount Cain turnoff on Highway 19 when he was hit by a 2005 Ford crew van, driven by a 22-year-old Port McNeill man, said Sayward RCMP.
The victim and driver worked for the same company and were travelling from their worksite. RCMP did not say what company they worked for.
Several employees witnessed the incident and provided statements to Sayward RCMP officers.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Police are not releasing the victim’s name.
The B.C. Coroner service, Worksafe B.C. and RCMP continue to investigate.
