Nanaimo RCMP discover drugs, shotgun and cash after arrest of woman, man

Nanaimo RCMP discovered 40 grams of heroin, 150 grams of cocaine, a stolen shotgun and about $20,000 in cash after the RCMP's drug unit arrested a man and a woman on Nov. 17.
Police arrested Christine Smithers, 35, while she was driving a 2011 Audi about 6 p.m. A search of the car revealed almost 30 grams of crack cocaine and 12 grams of heroin.
Police then arrested David Jack Pollard, 29, at his home in the 500 block of Duke Street at 6:30 p.m. Returning with a search warrant, they discovered $19,835, the rest of the drugs and the stolen gun.
Smithers was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Dec. 20. Pollard was charged with four counts of failing to comply with a prohibition order in relation to the firearm, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of stolen property.
He was to appear in provincial court Monday.
