A hair-raising affair: Shots fired in Nanaimo salon
Nov 23 2011
A 54-year-old Nanaimo business owner faces charges after shots were fired during an incident at a Stewart Avenue hair salon on Saturday morning.
Police arrived at the salon shortly after 3 a.m., after an alarm sounded.
When officers arrived, they found the front door smashed and the woman inside. They also found bullet casings on the floor and several bullet holes in the interior walls. It also appeared a computer had been stolen from the business.
The woman told police that suspects broke in to the business and she used a rifle in self-defence. A .22-calibre rifle was located and seized by officers. RCMP Forensics attended and told investigators none of the bullets fired penetrated the walls of the business. No injuries were reported.
The woman was arrested for careless use of a firearm and released the same day. She is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 10.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
