Dec 08 2011
A 61-year-old wheelchair-bound man was beaten and robbed outside his senior care facility.
Nanaimo RCMP said Wednesday that the man, who has a spinal disease, wheeled himself out of his home in the 900 block of Hecate Street in Nanaimo about 10: 30 p.m. Friday to have a cigarette. About two minutes later, he was approached by two males who demanded he give them his money. When he refused, he was pushed out of his chair, kicked, punched and hit repeatedly with a blunt object, police said.
The man told the suspects his wallet was in his jacket. They took it and went away. Police said the man went back into his room for two days. When he came out, staff saw the severity of his injuries and took him to the hospital for treatment.
The suspects are described as aboriginal. One had long, dark hair and the other wore a bandana around his neck. Anyone with information should call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
