Head-on collision near Goldstream Park snags Malahat traffic

Dec 12 2011

A head-on collision near Goldstream Park on the Malahat Drive sent one man to hospital Sunday after emergency responders had to pry open his Ford Explorer to get him out.

A woman heading north in a small sedan lost control of her vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic, according to Langford fire department crews called to the scene about 5:45 p.m.

Neither driver suffered life-threatening injuries, emergency-service officials said Sunday night.

By 7 p.m., vehicles were taking turns on the single lane that opened up to alternating traffic.

Mainroad Contracting workers were on scene, cleaning up oil that had spilled onto the highway from one or both vehicles. Officials planned to open all the lanes in both directions when the highway had been cleaned up and conditions were deemed safe again.

Westshore RCMP had no further details.
