Man thrown from his RV after explosion

Dec 20 2011

A man was thrown from his RV after an explosion inside his home on the Songhees Nation Monday night.

The explosion happened around 10:45 p.m. on a property off Cooper Lane. The man’s family, who live in a separate home on the property, heard the blast and rushed to his aid, calling 9-1-1, said View Royal fire inspector Rob Marshall.

About 18 firefighters from View Royal and Colwood fire departments rushed to the scene to tackle the fully engulfed RV.

B.C. Ambulance paramedics rushed the 27-year-old man to Victoria General Hospital. He was suffering from severe burns to his face, neck and hands.

His condition is still unknown.

No one else was inside the trailer and no neighbouring homes had to be evacuated, Marshall said.

Fire inspectors will be on scene today to determine the cause of the explosion.
