Support workers help man after stabbing
Dec 24 2011
A young man who was stabbed in an apartment building on Third Avenue in Port Alberni Friday sought help at the Bread of Life Centre next door.
Bread of Life administrator Cindy Sjoholm confirmed staff had helped the man.
"There was a fight next door," Sjoholm said. "He came inside looking for help."
Sjoholm said a doctor, who was at the support centre holding a clinic, helped the injured man while waiting for police and B.C. Ambulance paramedics to arrive. "It looked like a minor stab wound," Sjoholm said. The man was conscious and talking, she added.
Witnesses said he had been stabbed in the chest.
A number of police officers responded, including a canine unit. They searched the apartment building for the suspect.
A person was arrested and taken away by police, Sjoholm said. The wounded man, whose identity was unknown, was taken away by ambulance.
Police could not be reached for comment.
