Arson suspected in Nanaimo home fire
Dec 29 2011
A Nanaimo man was taken to hospital Wednesday after a fire at his home, which investigators believe could be arson.
The fire broke out at 1: 24 a.m. at Gillespie Street in south Nanaimo.
Seventeen firefighters from Nanaimo Fire Rescue arrived to find flames shooting out of the front and back windows of the home, assistant chief Wade Smith said.
The lone tenant had got out of the wood-framed house. He was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
The house was completely gutted, Smith said, adding that the tenant did not have insurance.
Nanaimo RCMP are investigating.
