Police have arrested a 38-year-old Victoria man and recommend charges of robbery and possession of drugs.
The owner of a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Johnson Street returned to his car around 7 p.m. on Friday to find the man rummaging through his car. The owner tried to close the door and contain the man, but he managed to get out.
The man threatened the owner with a pair of scissors and ran east on Johnson and then north through market square, according to Victoria police.
A detailed description of the suspect led officers to a well-known man who they say has a long history of similar offenses. Police had spoken to the man earlier in the day, during regular street checks and were able to match him to the clothing description, said Sgt. Grant Hamilton.
“They found him later, he had taken some of his clothing off, but they were able to identify him quite easily,” he said.
Police also found a small amount of crack cocaine when they arrested the man, who will appear in a telebail hearing today.
