Ladysmith man, 65, charged after one million child-porn images found

Jan 05 2012

Victoria, B.C. - Nanaimo RCMP have laid child porn charges against a 65-year-old Ladysmith man, more than a year after his arrest.

Bruce Alexander Rogers was arrested in December 2010 after searches of his business, in Cedar, and home, at Colonia Drive in Ladysmith, allegedly turned up almost one million pornographic images of children.

Officers seized 10 computers, digital cameras, web cameras, CDs, DVDs and dozens of external hard drives and electronic storage devices.

Rogers is charged with one count of possession of child pornography but more charges could be laid as the investigation is ongoing, RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien said.

Police believe it is the biggest pornography bust in Nanaimo’s history.

The investigation took a year because of the sheer volume of sexually explicit images, O’Brien said.

“The time delay in having this charge sworn can be attributed to investigators being required to review and analyze hundreds of thousands of pornographic images found on various hard drives and computers from his work place and home,” O’Brien said in a statement.

Rogers is expected to make his first court appearance in Nanaimo provincial court on January 24. He was released on conditions that prevent him from using computers, accessing the Internet or attending any public place where someone under 18 might be present.

RCMP were co-ordinating with the Vancouver-based Integrated Child Exploitation Unit and previously said their investigation could lead them to other people in B.C. viewing child porn.
